How to Root Google Nexus 5 and Install TWRP Recovery.

Nexus 5 is Google’s Android phone. Many Android users preferred rooted device as you will gain full access and control of the Android system that runs on your device. Disclaimer

Installing a custom recovery on Google Nexus 5 will wipe the stock recovery and replace it with a new one. By installing a custom recovery on your device and rooting it, you’ll void its warranty. I have tested the procedure on Google Nexus 5 successfully but still, you are warned to proceed unless you understand what you’re going to do. The procedure might soft-brick your device but you can easily recover it by installing the stock firmware back.

Pre-requirements

  • This method is only for Google Nexus 5. Don’t try this on any other device.
  • Bootloader Should be Unlocked
  • Copy and Paste Downloaded recovery.img file to folder where you installed the adb.
  • Follow the steps correctly otherwise, you may brick your device. We are not responsible for any damage to your Android Phone.
  • You need either Laptop or PC.
  • Charge your phone to at least 70 - 80%.
  • Back up your device, just in case if you need it later.
  • Make sure you have followed the steps properly.


Method 1:-

Download Links:

  1. ADB and Fastboot for your PC.
  2. Twrp Recovery Image file (rename it to recovery.img )
  3. SuperSu.zip file


Follow these Simple Steps to Root and Install TWRP Google Nexus 5

Step 1 :- First enable the USB debugging option in Google Nexus 5.
  • To enable USB debugging option Go to your Settings >> About Phone >> now tap the build number 7-8 times until you see a message ‘you are now a developer’.
  • Now as we have enabled developer options, go back to Settings >> developer options >> and now enable USB debugging also enable OEM unlock.
Step 2 :-  Copy and Paste Downloaded recovery.img file to folder where you installed the adb.

Step 3 :- Now connect your device to your PC using usb cable and go to folder where you installed the adb and press and hold shift then right-click on white space and Select "Open command window here".

Step 3 :- Now Reboot your phone into fastboot mode by typing the following command.

"adb reboot bootloader"

Step 4:- Now your device will reboot into fastboot mode. If it doesn’t, check if your USB cable is connected properly and you have drivers installed properly. You can check a list of connected device by typing the following command.
    "fastboot devices"
Step 5:- Now type following commands at command prompt to flash recovery

"fastboot  flash recovery recovery.img"  ( Downloaded File Name)

Step 6:- Now type following commands at command prompt to Reboot your device.

"fastboot reboot"

Guide to Root Google Nexus 5

  • Download and move the SuperSu.zip file into internal storage of your Google Nexus 5.
  • Turn off and boot your device into TWRP Recovery by pressing and holding Volume up + Power key simultaneously.
  • In TWRP recovery menu tap on Install button.
  • Select SuperSu.zip file.
  • Swipe right to confirm the rooting process.
  • Reboot your Google Nexus 5.

Step 2:- Extract the Downloaded zip file.

Step 3:- Boot into fastboot mode by holding in the Volume Down + Power key Simultaneousaly and Connect your device to your PC with a USB cable.

Step 4:-  Now go to folder where you extracted the zip file and press and hold shift then right-click on white space and Select "Open command window here".


Step 5:- In the command window type: root-windows.bat . and follow on screen instruction.


Note:- 
  • If your bootloader is not already unlocked, this process will erase all the data on your device.  If you want to unlock your bootloader before continuing, then Follow this instruction to unlock bootloader.
  • The most common issue is that the root-windows.bat command fails. If you run into this, Download and install the proper fastboot drivers for your Nexus 5. You could try installing the Universal_Naked_Driver_0.73.zip.
