How to Install AICP 12.1 [Android Nougat 7.1] Rom on Moto Z (griffin)

Android Ice Cold Project [AICP 12.1 - Nightly] [Android Nougat 7.1] is now available for the Moto Z (griffin) and ready to be flashed/installed. This amazing AICP custom ROM comes with tons of new features and is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It is an Android 7.1 Nougat based AOSP ROM developed and maintained by AICP team members. AICP is known by everyone as Ice Cold Project that started on Desire HD and since then evolved into a mature ROM with the BEST community you can find. It includes all the CM14.1 features. AICP tries to provide a close to AOSP experience. It is a pretty stable ROM that runs fast and stays smooth.

Installing a custom ROM on a mobile requires the bootloader to be unlocked on this mobile phone, which may VOID your warranty and may delete all your data. Before proceeding further you may consider backup all data on the phone. You are the only person doing changes to your phone and I cannot be held responsible for the mistakes done by you.


  • This is new AICP 12.1 [Android 7.1] firmware has to be installed on the Moto Z (griffin) model only; if tried on other devices, it might get bricked [To check your device model: Go to Settings >> About phone >> model number].
  • You must have a custom recovery like TWRP installed on your device to be able to install Aicp Rom.
  • Make sure the device has more than 80 percent battery.
  • Most of the custom ROM will not have Google Apps in them. So, you will have to download and install GApps manually.
  • If you face force close, go to Settings >> Setupwizard >> Give permission

How to Install a AICP 12.1 ROM using TWRP Recovery

  1. Connect your Device to your computer using a USB cable and copy the ROM and GApps zip files to your phone’s SD card root folder
  2. Disconnect the USB cord and power off your Android device.
  3. Boot your device into TWRP recovery mode by long pressing Volume Down + Power key Simultaneously.
  4. Once entering the TWRP Recovery menu, clear phone's memory (full) by selecting 'Wipe' option. Once done, select 'Swipe to Factory Reset' on the bottom of screen to perform factory reset.
  5. Go back to TWRP main menu, tap on Install and select the Downloaded file that you transferred to your device in Step 1.
  6. After selecting the .zip file, do Swipe Right to Confirm Flash on the bottom of screen to begin the custom ROM installation process. This may take some time.
  7. Once your ROM is successfully flashed, Go back to TWRP main menu, tap on “Install” and select the that you transferred to your device in Step 1.
  8. After selecting the file, do Swipe Right to Confirm Flash on the bottom of screen to begin the Gapps installation process. This may take some time.
  9. Once your ROM is successfully flashed, you’ll see “Wipe cache/dalvik” option, select it and then do “Swipe to wipe” on bottom of screen.
  10. Once cache & dalvik wipe completes, hit the “Back” button on-screen and then select “Reboot System” button.

Note:- If faced with boot loop problem, navigate back to TWRP settings, and select 'Wipe cache/dalvik'. This procedure will help resolve any issue with regard to custom ROM installation

That’s it! Your Device should now have AICP 12.1 ROM installed ! Go to Settings > About phone to verify.
